Hi Phil,
Welcome to the forum....and the club. To be honest the best way to decide which way you want to go is to come and have a look. Everyone is going to sing the praises of their own class but personally I think if you want a bit of fun where you can tinker yourself and just disappear into the garage whenever you want then the class for you is 250 gearbox (can you guess what I race?) oh, and we get the best pit spaces Have a look for the closest 4 karts to the dummy grid....all gearbox

Anyway I'm number 21, turn right when you get to the dummy grid and i'm down there on the right, feel free to come over and say hi tomorrow, if you time it right there might even be a cuppa on the go

In 250's you can use any chassis (a few of the guys have made their own) but only a selection of engines, most of us use the honda cr250, but we have Rotax 257's, KTM 250's Yamaha 250's etc....I'll try to remember to bring a copy of my blue and gold books down for you tomorrow, they have all the details and rules of karting in them. Other classes have a selection of chassis to choose from but they have to be homologated, so no making your own , and they have specific engines for each class, most of which are sealed which means you have to send away for any maintenance work or rebuilds.

I picked up my first gearbox kart for £200, so there are decent bargains out there, I would definitely try and get advice on any kart you look at before you buy but most people in karting are fairly straight up (in my experience).

I dont know about twin engined karts, there arent any running at Dunks.

that would be great to have a look through them, £200 sounds a total bargin, ATM there seems to be so many rules and regs to take in, hopefully after tomorrow it wont seem as much if you see what i mean, i cant wait to have a look around and pick up as much info as poss, do many karts come up for sale at events like tomorrow? if so that could be an option for me as id be able to ask advice about them and if they are ready to race and in what class

I'll bring the books (if i remember) and talk you through a few things tomorrow, I'll also introduce you to some guys from the other class that would be open to you so you can get all opinions.
